| Kalyna and Steph - Year one 2011 |
This is my forth year at Camp Woodward, it seems hard to believe that the first time I went with the girls most of them were only 8 years old! Now they are young ladies, on the verge of entering their teen years. Some will continue to pursue gymnastics and some undoubtedly will move on. I hope, however, that wherever their path takes them, that the times they spent at Woodward are bright ones, remembered with clarity and fondness of a childhood filled with wonder, friendship and opportunities. I also hope they remember how awesome their parents were to afford them the opportunity to not only train with Olympians at a world reknown camp, but to also drive them 6 hours to Pennsylvania, leave them in another country in the trust and care of other people, and then drive 6 hours back to Canada, only to do it again a week later, year after year lol. Let's face it mom's and dad's, we are pretty cool.
And if we weren't awesome enough, here are some things to consider packing to make the camp experience even more amazing.
Some things to know
Each day at Woodward is a theme, the trend in years past tends to be as follows
Mustache Monday - sport the craziest mustache
Tattoo Tuesday - cover your body in tattoo's, the more the better, just like the skater boys
Woodward Wednesday - Wear your Woodward Swag from years past
Crazy Hair Day - How wild can you go?
Crazy dress day - underwear on your head... why not?!?
During mandatory training the girls have a opportunity to show their camp spirit by participating and even win some neat prizes, usually a pizza slice, a pop, ice cream or a coveted Julep from the canteen. So hit up the dollar store for crazy wigs, coloured hairspray, tattoos, fake mustaches etc. The crazier the better.
Next up: Life Outside the gym at Woodward.
Stay Calm and Flip On!
